Braselton's Ruppel named Main Street Hero
Braselton’s Matt Ruppel was named a “Main Street Hero” at the Georgia Downtown Association’s annual conference at Jekyll Island.
Ruppel, co-owner of Cotton Calf Kitchen and Braselton Fine Bakery in downtown Braselton, was honored for his "visionary investments and spirit of philanthropy which has had a transformative impact on the historic downtown’s revitalization efforts."
In 2014, Ruppel purchased about 220 acres of bank-owned property. Since that time, he has donated a portion of the property allowing for the construction of the Town Green and new parking deck. He renovated the historic cotton gin building allowing for the opening of Braselton’s first brewery, the Braselton Brewing Company. He has also donated personal funds toward advertising, signage and more. Ruppel’s love of the town continues with plans for more retail, restaurants and residences, organizers state.
“It has been like a dream come true to have a newcomer come into our community and contribute selflessly as Matt has done. He truly represents a hometown hero to us, and we are grateful to have him walk alongside the DDA as we work on economic growth and vibrancy for our downtown,” said downtown development chairman Hollie Hutchinson.
At its premier event on downtown development and historic preservation in Georgia, the Georgia Downtown Association’s conference promoted downtown and economic development through public awareness, government relations and education.
